Underwriters analyze the risk associated with insuring people and businesses. Personal Lines underwriters handle automobile, homeowners, dwelling fire, and personal umbrella policies. Commercial Lines underwriters provide businesses with automobile, property, general liability, workers compensation, commercial umbrella, inland marine, crime, surety, and premium audit policies.
As part of the Underwriting Services Division, Risk Control provides underwriters and service teams with key information needed to evaluate the acceptability and quality of a risk. By performing comprehensive on-site analysis of the insured’s business or operations, they can help identify and reduce risk and future loss exposures. Risk Control Consultants proactively provide ongoing safety and loss prevention education programs that benefit our policyholders.
The basic reason a person buys insurance is for financial security. A loss may not occur for years, but when a loss occurs, the insured expects to be paid in a timely manner. Delivery on the promise to pay is the heart of the claims function and process. The Claims division carries out the company’s promise of “Always Here to Help.” Claim Professionals take great pride in providing the insured a prompt, fair, and equitable settlement for covered losses.
The Administrative Services Division supports Underwriting Services with commercial and personal multi-line rating and data entry processing. This division is also responsible for testing and validating new products and systems, as well as streamlining processes of the file/mailroom, facilities, and document scanning activities for better efficiencies.
This business unit is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the company’s financial resources to maximize profitability. Duties of this department include statutory accounting, financial performance reporting, cost analysis, and expense and tax management.
Information Systems uses a collection of information, work practices, methods and technology that is organized in a way that is useful for individuals and groups to accomplish the goals of the organization. Some of the responsibilities of Information Systems include system analysis and design, databases, software engineering, networking, project management, and decision sciences. Information Systems is instrumental to the continuous improvement of business processes, operations, and communication for maximum efficiency and productivity.
The Island Insurance Property and Casualty Internship Program is an excellent way for students to gain hands-on experience, working alongside insurance professionals to begin a rewarding career in the Property and Casualty insurance industry. The 1-2 semester paid program is available to college juniors and seniors.
